D2 Place and the renowned French May Arts Festival are proud to enter their tenth year of collaboration, a true milestone. From May 8 to 31, the two parties will join hands to present the 10th-anniversary celebration, 'Mona Lisa and Her Adventures in Hong Kong', featuring a highly creative knit art exhibition and a French-style carnival market, bringing an artistic journey that transcends geography and media to Lai Chi Kok.
In addition to the highlight of the event, the 'Mona Lisa and Her Adventures in Hong Kong' knit art exhibition planned by Lo's Knitware, there will also be over 50 French brand and fine food and beverage market stalls, inviting the public to celebrate this French artistic event together.
'Mona Lisa and Her Adventures in Hong Kong' Knit Art Exhibition Blends Local Culture and Creativity
The core of this year's celebration is undoubtedly the 'Mona Lisa and Her Adventures in Hong Kong' knit art exhibition, which brings French legend into Hong Kong's daily life. Lo's Knitware showcases its exceptional craftsmanship by using knitting techniques to reinterpret Da Vinci's classic masterpiece. Mona Lisa will step out of her frame and become an urban adventurer, wandering through the streets and alleys of Hong Kong: whether she is drinking tea and eating dim sum at a cha chaan teng, enjoying egg waffles on Tai Ping Shan, or searching for the 'Twelve Chinese Zodiacs' in natural landscapes, the mysterious smile from the master's brush will collide wonderfully with the local 'Hong Kong-style' scenery, unfolding an 'Adventure in Hong Kong'!
Series One: 'A Smile for Pets'
This series, themed 'Pet-friendly', releases Mona Lisa from the classic painting and brings her into a vibrant and emotionally connected animal world. In the scene, she no longer sits still but actively interacts with different species. This series of works not only hopes to convey that D2 Place is a 'pet-friendly' mall but also wants to display a kind of gentle relationship that transcends boundaries. Art is not only reinterpreted but also reflects a gentler and more connected lifestyle.
Series Two: 'Mona Lisa Sings the Fragrant River'
In this series, Mona Lisa steps out of the museum and into the daily life of Hong Kong. She overlooks Victoria Harbour from the peak, strolls the streets with egg waffles in hand, and sits in a tea house to savor dim sum, becoming a part of the city.
The works bring classic art closer to the public in a relaxed and humorous way, making art no longer unattainable but integrated into the details of life. Through familiar Hong Kong scenes and objects, viewers can rediscover the affinity of art and the unique charm of urban culture with a smile.
Series Three: 'Mona Lisa's Twelve Zodiac Adventures'
This series of works cleverly combines the traditional Chinese 'Twelve Chinese Zodiacs' with Hong Kong's unique landscape culture. Mona Lisa transforms into an 'urban adventurer', wandering through multiple unique scenes in Hong Kong named after the 'Twelve Chinese Zodiacs', creating a cross-cultural and cross-regional visual dialogue that allows viewers to rediscover Hong Kong and its unique 'Twelve Chinese Zodiacs' landscapes.
Each knit artwork not only delicately presents the symbolic meanings of the zodiac animals but also deeply blends Hong Kong's terrain features and collective memories, naturally intertwining Western classic images with Eastern cultural symbols. This is not only a cultural collage in vision but also a re-interpretation of identity recognition, local values, and tradition inheritance, fully reflecting Hong Kong's inclusiveness and diversity as an international metropolis.
The exhibition will be held at THE LOFT on the basement level of Phase 2 from May 8 to May 31. Multiple wall-mounted works of different sizes will be displayed, allowing viewers to appreciate the warmth that the knit texture brings to the artworks up close.
French-style Carnival Market Full of Surprises: Capture the Perfect Mona Lisa Moment
From May 8 to 10, a three-day 'French-style Carnival Market' will be held on the 2nd floor of Phase 1 at THE SPACE. The market stalls will feature Mona Lisa's Hong Kong adventures, gathering a variety of French products, exquisite handicrafts, and specialty snacks that blend local cultural characteristics.
